"Chi Taekwondo was formed in 2008 when Chungdokwan UK decided to resign from the BTCB, the National Governing Body (NGB) for WTF Taekwondo in the UK.
This withdrawal from the NGB was a massive step backwards that would severely restrict the avenues of Sport and Technical Taekwondo events and seminars that the students in the clubs would be able to attend. It would prevent any student from participating in National and International events that could lead to selection for National teams at European, World and Olympic level. It also meant that the instructors would no longer be adequately insured, have access to the best training or further themselves with Nationally and Internationally recognised qualifications.
With this in mind, the more progressive instructors decided it was in the best interests of their students’ development to remain as members in the BTCB and so they founded Chi Taekwondo.
At its inception, Chi Taekwondo had over 300 members and has since grown rapidly already encompassing two smaller associations. This growth is expected to continue as other clubs realise that the only avenue for recognised certification and insurance, access to recognised regional, National and International competitions and seminars, and ultimately, eligibility for the Great Britain Teams, is via the National Governing Body, the British Taekwondo Control Board (BTCB)" |
