Training started out with Russell giving the team a talk about future performances such as Blue Peter, Chi Xmas Party and Local Heroes.
The team are working towards appearing on Blue Peter to perform World Record Attempts and possibly a performance of our new routine. The team layed out a length of foam blocks measureing approx 10 people for Ben Shaw to perform a flying side kick over which took a few go's but achieved it after just two attempts. At the same length Ben, Daniel and Ray attempted front sumersaults over the distance with some good results however the team adopted a more realistic attempt with kicking with the use of Jason Chapman.
The attempt entails the most amount of apples smashed from a Sai in 1 minute using a reverse turning kick, the current record stands at 45 and in training jason reached the target mark of 45 as did Daniel Minns, after both got up of the floor from being dizzy they helped with further practice of record attempts.
Ray attempted the highest jump front kick, the record currently set at around 2 meters 40, Ray was about 14 inches away and believes with further practice he may be able to reach the target. Ray and Russell then practiced with Brett Sawley at the current record held by the demo team for the highest assisted martial arts kick; 4.25m.
Brett definetly broke the record in training and we hope to break it for real sometime next year. That was about it for training this sunday, everyone layed out the gymnastics equipment and then made their ways home.
(Sorry for the delay in the post as i have been busy uploading the Tigers vs Chi fight night demonstration)

Durham County Council Demo

The Chi Display Team performed at the Durham County Council Awards on Friday 9th October bringing new life to their high flying acrobatics and martial art skills. The team have been working towards a new innovative routine comprising of Dance Choreography, Gymnastics and of course Taekwondo.

The routine is in preliminary stages and has many more edits and additions to come to make it into a crowd stopping routine.

The footage of the night shows the preliminary routine and at this early stage the crowd were really responsive and loved what the team had to offer.

The Demo Team would like to thank Durham County Council for the opportunity and we look forward to performing for you again in the future.

Training Sunday 11th October

The team were in high spirits after the demo performance on friday and were looking forward to some leisure time, the team turned up at 6 as usual unfortunately some team members could not make it due to prior commitments.

A steady warm up to some Pitbull and Akon was energetic and funny especially when we ended up doing leap frog. The warm up out the way Master Russ give the team a free lesson to practice techniques which we would like to work towards.

Sam our new member and a promising talent started working on Round off Back Tucks with Master Russell and Myself (Ray) to gain confidence however we all laughed when he tried it in the sponge pit and totally wiped out. Natalie was also gaining confidence with the same technique and is now adding double flash kicks to the arsenal.

Ben and Lauren were keen to chat and play music of my Ipod lol, however were concentrating on fitness and doing floor exercise together such as crunches and leg raises.

Tom and Jack took it upon themselves to master butterfly twist which none of the team have done in a while and think next week we should all have a go. Keep going boys you weren't far off making them.

Brett was doing the usual flipping around until me and russ hauled him over to try a new break which resulting in him face planting the foam, very funny (russell's idea blame him, lol). Dean; brother of brett was out of action due to a broken toe (thanks tom, lol) however showed support and came down to watch.

Myself was taking it easy after a run from Ferryhill to training yet still had some energy to flip around.

10 minutes from the end of the lesson i though of a new break using Sam and Natalie however it is still in the works and I'm sure they will perfect it in the future, sorry guys and girls cant let you in on it just yet or it would spoil the surprise at the christmas demonstration.

Well i think that's about it for training this sunday, keep checking the blog for further info on the team and demonstrations.
